Our resources for your setting and families are designed to bring books, stories and rhymes to life, incentivise families to take part and make reading accessible in their daily lives.
There are also downloadable resources to help with the delivery of Bookstart Corner, and with training practitioners.
Bookstart Corner pack
A gift for families to support their shared reading at home. Inside you'll find:
- A board book and picture book The two books for 2019 are Looking Good! and Jump and Shout! They've been chosen to be fun, age-appropriate and suitable for parents of all confidence levels and reading abilities.
- Book guidance Dialogic guidance specific to the two books in the pack, designed to provide parents with simple tips on how to engage their children further with the books.
- What Babies Love This booklet contains guidance for parents on how to share books with their children - toddlers as well as babies.
Superbox 1
Resources for you to give to families, to support Bookstart Corner activities and enable them to continue activities at home. Inside you'll find:
- My First Marks pad and crayons This mark-making pad and pack of 6 crayons can be used to increase parents’ their understanding of emerging literacy skills and how they can support their child in a variety of ways beyond reading to writing and drawing.
- Stories are Fun for Everyone This DVD gives parents tips and shows examples of reading books and sharing stories and rhymes with their children. It is also available on our YouTube channel if a DVD player is not available.
- Fabric and card finger puppets and guidance Puppets are a great way to encourage parents to expand the way they share books with their children. They can be used as prompts for discussion about how parents can make their own props to bring stories alive by using items available around the house.
- Busy Bear! book A storybook following a day in the life of Bookstart Bear and his adventures. It can be used by practitioners to open up a discussion about the importance of routine and the puppets can be used to bring the story to life.

Resources for your setting to enhance or develop a physical Bookstart Corner space for all families accessing any service to enjoy. Inside you'll find:
- Bookstart Corner Handbook The Bookstart Corner handbook gives you all the information you need about the theory behind the programme, and ideas on how to deliver the sessions. You can also download a copy here.
- Practitioner bags A high-quality bag to transport resources on home visits or when you deliver Bookstart Corner from different settings.
- 10 picture books A selection of ten high-quality board and picture books to enhance or develop a library as part of each setting’s physical Bookstart Corner space. The books are chosen to be appropriate for the wide age range of children that might come to your setting and are titles that our panel of top children’s centres believe to be excellent for sharing with pre-schoolers.
- Top Ten sticker sheets Book-sharing tips accompany each book title as stickers for you to put in each of the titles. These tips and suggestions are designed to encourage families to get the most out of the story by talking about the book together and having fun with the story.
- The Rhyme Challenge pack The Rhyme Challenge gets families learning rhymes together. It challenges families to learn up to 10 rhymes, with beautifully designed rhyme sheets, posters and certificates.
