Bookstart Toddler and Nursery packs
What are Bookstart Toddler and Nursery?
Bookstart Toddler and Nursery are new book packs from BookTrust Cymru, designed to make reading a fun and rewarding activity to do as a family. Bookstart Toddler packs are aimed at 1-2 year-olds and Bookstart Nursery packs are aimed at 3-4 year-olds.
Each pack contains two books, along with activities to bring the book to life. You can find more ideas for using your pack below, as well as downloadable and printable versions of the pack resources.
BookTrust Cymru work to identify specific settings and practitioners across local authorities that support us to gift packs to families, such as health visiting teams, playgroups and nurseries.
Not all families will receive Bookstart Toddler and Nursery packs, but everyone can access BookTrust Cymru's free online resources via the Bookstart Family Hub, which features activities, book suggestions, advice on reading with your child and more.
- Each pack contains the books Dewi Yn Mynd I'r Parc / Zeki Goes To The Park and I Ffwrdd  Ni: Trên / All Aboard: Train.
- Finger puppet: Use it to tell the story or just use it to get your child talking.
- Dewi Yn Mynd I'r Parc / Zeki Goes To The Park: Take the book with you when you go out and about. Can you spot any of the things that Zeki and Mummy see on their trip to the park?
- I Ffwrdd  Ni: Trên / All Aboard: Train: See if your child can use the push and pull tabs when you read together.
- If you fancy a rhyme, try out the ideas on the back of your pack.
- Each pack contains the books Dwmbwr Dambar / Rumble Tumble and Y Deinosor Bach Yma / This Little Dinosaur.
- Your child will love colouring in their headband with the pack of crayons. They can wear it to become a Roarsome Reader when you share stories together
- Dwmbwr Dambar / Rumble Tumble: How many different animals take a tumble with Bear? See if your child can count along with you.
- Y Deinosor Bach Yma / This Little Dinosaur: Encourage your child to spot the actions of the different dinosaurs and act them out when you read together. Can you stamp and stomp or swoop, soar and roar like a dinosaur?
- Try the Spot the Pairs activity on the back of the pack - can you name the animals as you go?
