BookTrust Annual Lecture 2017: Staring into Space with Lauren Child
Lauren Child - then Waterstones Children's Laureate - gave the Annual Lecture at a special event at RIBA in London in 2017.
The theme of Lauren's lecture was 'What do you think about when you think about nothing?' and she explored the importance of allowing children time to daydream and be creative.
She also touched on the importance of diversity in children's books and suggested that writing and illustrations for young people should be valued and taken more seriously as an art form.
Guests at the lecture included Ed Vere, Andy Stanton and Nadia Shireen and the event also featured a 25th anniversary celebration of BookTrust's flagship Bookstart programme, which entitles every child in England and Wales to two free book packs before they turn five.
During the event, Bookstart founder Wendy Cooling was presented with a special Outstanding Contribution award by BookTrust's CEO Diana Gerald and chair of trustees Karen Brown.
