The shortlist for the Klaus Flugge Prize is finally here - and, as usual, it's a sight to behold.

Here are the five books on the shortlist:

  • Hannah and Sugar, Kate Berube, edited by Tamar Brazis (Abrams & Chronicle), edited by Tamar Brazis (Abrams)
  • The Museum of Me, Emma Lewis, edited by Alice Chasey (Tate)
  • First Snow, Bomi Park, edited by Victoria Rock (Chronicle Book)
  • The Journey, Francesca Sanna, edited by Harriet Birkenshaw, (Flying Eye)
  • Little Red, Bethan Woollvin, edited by Suzanne Carnell (Two Hoots)

The shortlist was decided by an expert panel of judges: Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler; Nicholas John Frith, the 2016 Klaus Flugge Prize winner; Sunday Times children's books editor Nicolette Jones; and Tamara Macfarlane, owner of the Tales on Moon Lane children's bookshop.

The five books chosen cover a wide range of subject matters and artistic techniques, and an international line up with illustrators from Korea, Italy and the United States, as well as the UK.

The winner will be announced in September.
