Here's the Carnegie shortlist - but who should win the top prize?

Yes! We finally know who's on the shortlist for the 2017 CILIP Carnegie Medal, which celebrates outstanding writing for children and young people. Intrigued? Take a look.

The CILIP Carnegie Medal, along with its sister prize the Kate Greenaway Medal, form the UK’s oldest and most prestigious book awards for younger readers.

They are both marking their 60th anniversary year in 2017, which makes this shortlist even more historic and exciting.

The full 2017 shortlist

Here are the eight books on the Carnegie shortlist, in alphabetical order (by author surname):
