‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse… Thus begins the much loved tale of a man who wakes up in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve to see St Nicholas – or, as we now think of him, Father Christmas – drive past in his sleigh. Even more excitingly, he hears the reindeer’s hooves on his own roof and is delighted to see St Nicholas in all his jolly glory come down the chimney and stuff all the stockings with presents before driving off in his sleigh, calling out the famous phrase Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
