The Secret Time Machine and the Gherkin Switcheroo

Publisher: Walker Books

Marcus is a worm and Laurence is a bird. You'd think that being friends would be tricky, but friendship can transcend such petty differences.

However, Marcus lands himself in trouble by telling Laurence that his aunt has built a time-travelling machine. Then, when Laurence actually believes him, Marcus realises that he has to either invent time travel, or confess that he lied. Naturally, he doesn't want to confess.

With his friend Vera's help, Marcus and Laurence 'time travel' to happen upon a delicious medieval-style banquet, but, of course, lies always get found out and, thankfully, with the help of some couples' therapy, all is well between the friends.

The theme is, of course, that lies only get us into trouble and the best way out of it is to be truthful. Lia's fantastically silly story is full of her humorous Adventure Time-esque illustration: together with a simple but tongue-in-cheek story, it's completely brilliant.
