The People Awards

Publisher: Lincoln Children’s Books

The People’s Awards is about to begin – make sure you grab your seat for this excellent celebration of inspiring activists, trailblazers, artists, musicians, athletes, scientists and politicians. From David Bowie to Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Ellen DeGeneres to Cleopatra, 50 of the most important people from antiquity to the present day are profiled here.

As well as the more well known, The People’s Awards also honours those who might be less familiar to the average child: Vincent Lingari, for instance, a member of the indigenous Gurindji community in Australia, whose activism helped the Gurindji reclaim their land from white settlers; or American Paralympian Trischa Zorn, who won six Paralympic gold medals at the age of 16 and remains the most successful athlete in the history of the Paralympic Games.

The book comprises 29 double-page spreads, each featuring one great achiever, and 21 additional figures that are profiled in lesser detail, usually in groups of four in one double-page spread. The style is clear, with attractive illustrations and colourful pages that are accessible and full of interest for mid-primary readers.
