The Great War

The centenary of World War I has seen a whole host of new books giving an insight into the history of this conflict. Subtitled 'an anthology of stories inspired by objects from the First World War', this beautifully-designed short story collection for young readers is one of the highlights.

Each story is inspired by a different object from World War I, from a soldier's writing case to the nose of a Zeppelin bomb. The collection features new work from well-known writers for children and young adults, including Michael Morpurgo, Marcus Sedgwick, David Almond and Timothee de Fombelle, as well as by adult authors such as AL Kennedy and Tracy Chevalier. Kate Greenaway Medal winning illustrator Jim Kay's artwork in a palette of black, white and grey provides a powerful, hard-hitting accompaniment.
