The Coral Kingdom
Publisher: Words & Pictures Press
What a lot there is to see on a coral reef: larvae drifting on currents, sunken yachts, polyps, dugong, whales, turtles, sharks and rainbow-coloured fish, as well as the amazing variety of the coral itself. Yet, after we see the deep and wonderful colours of the normal reef, it’s contrasted with the bleached white that comes from global warming creating acidic, warmer seas.
The great beauty and diversity of the coral reef is explored in this stunningly beautiful picture book, which is a true work of art. The rhyming non-fiction text scans well, and it’s always nice to see facts addressed with rhyme. The fold-out page at the end of the book that gives some more information about coral reef conservation, and being aware of what we can do, is useful and pitched at the right level.
