Review

In the previous two books of the Dragon Gold series, Harri and his best friend Ryan tried hard to keep Harri’s gentle pet dragon, Tân, hidden from the world. Determined to be the best at everything, Ryan’s dad created Draca, his own fearsome dragon, who attacked Tân, resulting in a mighty battle.

The third volume sees the creatures captured and incarcerated in St Gertrude’s Tower, where they become a tourist attraction. Harri visits daily, but desperately wishes his beloved dragon was able to fly freely over the Welsh countryside once again. When Ryan’s dad helps Draca escape, he challenges Tân to a deadly duel at Dinas Emrys, the ancient magical site of Merlin’s Cave. Although Harri knows that Tân is the only one who can stop Draca from spreading terror and destruction, he is fearful of the consequences of another dragon fight.

This exciting climax to a thrilling trilogy will have readers on the edge of their seats. Themes of friendship, loyalty and bravery blend with fascinating Welsh legends to create a humorous chapter book with entertaining illustrations.
