TV and radio presenter, maths teacher, National Numeracy ambassador and money management expert Bobby Seagull worked on the brilliant book Lift-the-Flap Questions and Answers about Money... and here he shares some top tips to help you talk about money with your children!

Learning about money from a young age is key to building good money habits. Here are a few tips to help you help your children learn about money...

Talk to your children about money. It sounds simple but this is the most effective way to help your children understand what money is.

You could involve them in the weekly shop. Ask them to help you find good deals or keep track of how much you're spending.

Make sure they're confident identifying and using physical cash. Show younger children any coins or notes you have in your wallet. Count them together. Talk about the different sizes and colours.

Talk about the differences between a need and a want. This will help them understand the importance of making sure you've got enough money to cover your needs before splashing out on wants, and why you can't buy everything that everyone wants.
