Find out about children's book events taking place this March.


Early March: The shortlist for the YA Book Prize is unveiled this month! The winner will be announced at the iconic Hay Festival in May.

3 March: Today is the Jhalak Prize longlist announcement - will there be a children's book amongst the contenders? This is a prize which aims to seek out the best books by British resident BAME writers from all genres, and it's definitely worth checking out!

5 March: It's World Book Day - this is actually our favourite day ever and you can join in, too!

5 March: The winners of the Blue Peter Book Awards are announced live on Blue Peter this afternoon - tune in at 5:30pm to see which titles are named the Best Story and Best Book with Facts.

6-11 March: Get ready for the Belfast Children's Book Festival - which authors will be appearing this year?

10-12 March: London Book Fair: Please note that this event has now been cancelled due to the coronavirus.

19 March: The shortlists of the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals are announced - we are so glad we don't have to try and narrow them down! 

16-22 March: It's time for Shakespeare Week - this year, the theme is art and design.

20 March: Hooray, it's World Storytelling Day!

21 March: It's time to celebrate some of our favourite verse as it's World Poetry Day.

19-29 March: Get ready for Huddersfield Literature Festival - among other events, there will be an autism-friendly screening of the film Moomins on the Riviera.

27 March-5 April: Oxford Literary Festival is always guaranteed to provide a spectacular programme of events – we definitely recommend checking out their programme on their website here.

31 March: We'll find out the winner of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award today!

Also in March: The winner of the Waterstones Children's Book Prize will be announced, so who will take the crown from Onjali Q. Raúf? We'll also get the UKLA Book Awards shortlist announcement.
