For each of these habitats, author Angela McAllister writes a free-verse poem that describes the wildlife and flora and fauna of these areas with so much beauty and rich detail that she transports you each time.
Nothing is spared from McAllister's warm, celebratory eye – whether it's a sloth or yak or mussels or polyps or the proboscis monkey or even fungi. There’s a real love of diversity and an understanding of delicacy; how ever-close these places are to peril.
This is a gorgeous book to pore over with your child, especially to spot the many creatures that peep out of the jam-packed digital drawings. If your child isn't in the right mood, they could have a bit of a fidget, since so much of the joy relies on a slow savouring. But if you pick your moment (perhaps at bedtime), then Wild World is a lovely book to lull and inspire.
