Stories of WW1
Publisher: Orchard Books
Tony Bradman invited 12 renowned children's authors to write short stories about a wide range of experiences of the First World War. Many have based their story on family history, re-imagining events from the lives of their grand- and great-grandparents. They were determined to show the wider impact of the First World War on their families at home - in Britain, Germany, France and Belgium - and the contribution made by troops from the wider Empire. The book also highlights the changing role of women in society.
Poignantly bringing the First World War alive for teenagers, this anthology reminds us that many of those in the trenches were themselves no older. It shows that there were devastating longer-term effects on the survivors, both mental and physical, as well as the awful death toll during the war.
