My Book of Birds

Publisher: Wren & Rook

Collage artist Geraldo Valerio depicts some of his favourite birds in this beautiful large format non-fiction book. A short introduction explains where his fascination with birds comes from, and why he enjoys making art about them.

Each vibrantly coloured spread shows a different bird with a short factual paragraph on their distinguishing feature and their Latin name, but this book is really all about the visuals.

A gorgeous palette of colours and some clever design makes each page a joy. The collage style is not so intricate that it couldn’t inspire some readers to have a go, too. Geometrical shapes evoke the artwork of Charley Harper, and this lovely book would make a great gift for any bird or design enthusiast, as well as any child with a blossoming interest in our feathered friends.
