Hotel for Cats
Publisher: Chicken House
Hotel Charamba is a Parisian establishment which provides accommodation for cats when their human companions go on holiday.
Although the hotel is run by a kind, elderly lady called Magda, the four permanent feline residents like to think that they are in charge. Bobine, Mulot, Carpette and Couscousse make new arrivals feel welcome by introducing them to the other guests and showing them around the Pawesome Palace, a communal area full of games, scratchy trees and secret passages.
When a little black cat called Wolfgang arrives for a two-week stay, Bobine is concerned that he seems frightened to leave his room and refuses to mix with the other cats. Despite the residents' best efforts to help him settle, Wolfgang becomes increasingly anxious and he rebuffs their invitations to ball-rolling, post-scratching and feather-dangling. Determined to make him feel at home, the four friends investigate and try to discover the cause of his troubling behaviour.
This light-hearted chapter book is full of gentle humour and features charming black-and-white illustrations, making it ideal for newly-confident readers who are developing their independent reading skills.
Exploring themes of friendship, kindness and bullying, this delightful tale would particularly appeal to cat-lovers.
