John and Davies combine on a tale which will resonate with adults as much as with children, as they show us the interaction between Bear, desperate to get to sleep, and Duck, who seems to suffer from insomnia, and cannot bear to be alone.
Just as Bear drops off to sleep the hyperactive Duck hammers at the front door and repeatedly and forcibly insists it would be just the right time to hang out together. Every time an increasingly irritated Bear manages to send him home and get back to bed the same thing happens again, until eventually even Duck is sleepy.
Cartoon-like images of the protagonists on bold, block-coloured pages clearly define an American setting, echoed in the text.
