This dream-like adventure has food at its heart. Liddy loves food, the Empress loves food, and every reader will long to try the food lovingly depicted here. There are even pictures of food on the endpapers at the beginning and end of the book!
The striking artwork references several traditional Chinese motifs, such as bamboo, delicate china plates, and red lanterns, as well as contemporary life.
Liddy is not an adorable-looking little girl, which makes her quite unique, and gives this book a distinctive feel. Unusual and quirky, but delightful.
