Courtney

Publisher: Random House (Red Fox)

Review

After much pleading the children are allowed a dog. They go to the dogs' home, ask for a dog that nobody wants and bring home Courtney. Soon Courtney becomes an invaluable member of the family. He can cook and juggle and do all sorts of useful jobs around the house! Then, one day Courtney packs his trunk and disappears, although it soon transpires he is never far away…

Here is another brilliant story depicting John Burningham's quirky humour and understanding of children, clearly evident in the language and wonderfully expressive pictures.
