The Messenger Bird
Publisher: Scholastic
Nathan didn't notice the two men in dark coats at first, but before he can raise the alarm they have dragged his father away and bundled him into a car. Nathan's dad just has time to give Nathan some cryptic clues and a firm instruction: 'You've got to follow Lily's trail, Nat.'
Those seven words set Nathan off on a mission to solve the clues and find the evidence that will prove his Dad is innocent. In doing so, Nathan gradually uncovers the story of Lily, a former employee at Bletchley Park, which becomes interwoven with his own.
A contemporary story with a historical twist, The Messenger Bird is pacy and engaging, and will be enjoyed by children with an interest in history and the Second World War.

this book is fanominal and a great read for ages 8 and up. its aboat a boy whose dad has been wrongly imprisoned and the boy must follow a trail left by his dad to show his inocense. but along this trail is danger and the truth can be dangerous. my favorite pages are the ones where he is in the attic looking for a clue because it gives the mood of fear and tention. i like the main charecter because he seems devoted to his dad and family and want them all to stick togther and will go to any...

I have read some of this book but have not finished. I struggled to get in to the book and follow what was going on. I didnt enjoy the book as I found it hard to follow. I prefer books that are funny/comedy. I would recommed this book to children over the age 10 years and think that the book would appeal to readers who enjoy discovering a mystery trail.

The messenger bird is about a boy called Nathan. His father had been arrested and taken in to questioning. Nathan goes on a mission to prove his fathers innocence. I liked how the author used first person to write this book, it makes you feel involved in the story. The book was full of suspense and mystery. I was hooked in minutes. I would seriously recommend reading this book if you love mystery type books.

I enjoyed The Messenger Bird particularly because of how Nathan and Lily's stories are so successfully intertwined. Both are trying to save their fathers, both are trying to break a code, both are threatened by the law and being branded traitors. Yet, one lives in 2011, and one lived in1940. The story is well crafted and it is a pacy and very engaging read.
