Say Goodbye... Say Hello

Publisher: Scallywag Press

Many goodbyes lead to hellos: whether saying goodbye to mum on the first day at a new school leads to saying hello to new friends, or whether the changing of the seasons might mean a temporary goodbye to playing outside and a hello to fun times inside.

Even the most difficult times, like saying goodbye to a pet when it dies, or a friend when they move house, can lead to saying hello to a heart full of emotion and letting go.

Cori Doerrfeld’s thick crayon-like outlined illustration style focuses close up on the children in the story and captures their feelings incredibly well, whilst also giving a reassuring and safe feel for readers, which is essential in a book that handles sadness and loss – as well as joy and friendship – so expertly. Somehow, we know from looking at the pictures that everything will be all right, even if there are some bumps in the road. An excellent book to use to talk to children in times of transition and change, reminding us that new things and people also bring great wonder.
