Why comics matter for young readers 02/12/24
I'm the Best
Publisher: Walker Books
Dog has lots of friends - he loves them but also loves to show off! He boasts that he is better at running than Mole, better at digging than Goose and better at swimming than Donkey.
Dog’s friends become dejected by his boastfulness, before realising that they all have things they do well too.
Now it’s Dog’s turn to be dejected – he feels like he’s rubbish at everything and can’t believe he was so mean to his friends, until they all get together to remind him that he’s best at being their best friend!
In a departure from Cousin’s usual illustrative style, vibrant splashes of colour appear throughout this book reflecting Dog’s exuberance well.
Dog is an irrepressible protagonist who many children will identify with and he just can’t resist one last boast at the end!

Great picture books to perform
Getting children to perform the stories of their favourite picture books can be a fantastic way to help them engage with the lessons within them.
