Emily Brown and the Thing
Publisher: Hachette
Lying in bed, Emily can hear lots of household noises which she discovers are made by a Thing who is afraid of things, and can't go to sleep without his cuddly, hot milk, medicine and reassurance.
When Emily comforts him and tells him he is a nice Thing, and that's what to think of when going to sleep, they can all finally snuggle down.
Funny, childlike and comforting illustrations underline the reassuring message for young readers who are afraid of the dark.

We loved this story because it was funny as the Thing kept making lots of excuses and Emily Brown was being kept awake. She helps him to get all things he needs to have a good nights sleep so there is a happy ending.
