About this book
When Meg’s elderly neighbour and friend Mr Beynon doesn’t answer his door to her during usual after-school visit, Meg knows that something is wrong. Venturing into the empty house confirms her suspicions. Meg has a feeling that her attempt to rid the ageing widower of his loneliness, by encouraging him to find a new companion on the internet, probably has something to do with his disappearance. Feeling guilty and fearful of how the adults in her life will react neurodivergent Meg decides to keep the information about her missing friend to herself vowing to solve the case on her own. As time goes by Meg’s concern for her friend increases but she also manages to collect enough information to bring her close to solving the mystery. With the end in sight, Meg has to venture beyond her hometown to peruse her enquiries further. But with the help of her trusty dog and a faithful friend she manages to avoid danger and save her friend. This is a book that celebrates friendships in all its different forms – and emphasises how the most unexpected ones can be the most precious.
