The Lottie Project
Publisher: Yearling
At odds with her strict new teacher, and concerned that her unmarried mother is falling for the divorced father of the little boy she childminds, Charlie's life becomes increasingly stressful. She throws herself into a school project, writing a fictional diary of Lottie, a young Victorian nanny whose problematic life draws many parallels with her own. This is a humorous, touching story, particularly useful for those coming to terms with the idea of a potential stepfamily.

I didn't know what year I lived in while I was reading this book, I was torn between the life of servant Lottie and modern single-parent brought up Charlotte

I liked this book. It was quite helpful because at the same time as I was reading it we where doing Victorians at school. I love that Charlie gets into baking. I hate the part when Charlie makes a cake, then brings it to her Granny and Grandad's house. Her Granny goes and ruins it all by saying that she has spelt anniversary wrong. I enjoyed the book though and would recomend the book to anyone between 7 and 12.
