Goat Goes to Playgroup
Publisher: Macmillan Children's Books
Julia Donaldson reassures newcomers to playgroups everywhere in this picture book with a simple rhyming text.
Through the story of Goat's active day, we are able to share the experience of the smallest children starting playgroup or nursery, suddenly encountering an environment with unfamiliar boundaries – where play is plentiful but controlled, and where we also occasionally have embarrassing moments like failing to make the toilet in time.
Goat hasn’t yet fitted into this regime, and would often rather be doing something else – so when it comes to circle time, he would rather be on the climbing frame!
Nick Sharratt’s bright, bold illustrations add immeasurably to the text, prompting plenty of conversations, offering up lots of details to explore, and carefully capturing a realistic playgroup setting. The final spread in which Goat's Mum arrives at the end of the day will be immensely reassuring for all.

A great book to share as part of preparing your toddler for starting nursery school. My son loves the rhyming and colourful illustrations, and searching for Goat's Mummy at the end!

We were given this book by bookstart in our local village. This book was the first book my son actually started to get involved in. He loved the silt juice scene and would shout "uh oh, silt juice" He loved the book so much we would read it many times over in one sitting. It is an excellent book just before you take them to nursery.

My son who's 3 in September loves this book especially since he's going to playschool soon and is so excited he loves anything to do with it. I like reading it to him as I feel it's giving him an idea of the playschool day.

a very colourful book, with bright pictures and colourful animals. the story was very helpful as we read it a few days before my daughter went to play group herself.

My son loves this book - the rhythm & rhyme of the book is wonderful! His favourite part is when goat is 'in a puddle' - it makes him giggle every time. Another fantastic Julia Donaldson read.

My 4 year old granddaughter loves reading this book when she comes to sleep at my house, we read it at bedtime so she calls it her sleeping book! She loves predicting the word which rhymes with the previous page, and anticipates the page where Goat is in a puddle!

Another great book from this pair. My little boy loves predicting the endings to each line and we like discussing what naughty things the goat is getting up to!

We got this out from our local library and my daughter thought it was hilarious with the naughty goat and all the mischief he got up to while at playgroup.
