Erica’s Elephant
Publisher: Scholastic
When Erica finds an elephant on her doorstep, she's not sure what to do with it. Yet Erica feels an immediate bond with this unlikely new friend, and forms a plan to make sure the elephant can stay.
However, her nosy neighbour has her own views on the appropriateness of keeping an elephant in a terraced house - and a helpful stranger seems to want to get involved, too. All is not what is seems, but Erica and her elephant understand each other in a way that no one else can.
Sylvia Bishop's short chapter book for young readers is a delight from start to finish. The intrusive elephant is a lovely image and his expressive 'TRONK's will have everyone giggling.
There are pretty illustrations from newcomer Ashley King and the excellent elephant facts at the end are a nice touch, too.
