Clare and her Captain

(1 reviews with an average rating of 5 out of 5)

Publisher: Conkers (Barrington Stoke)

On her annual summer holiday to Great Aunt Dora's cottage in Devon, Clare escapes the family arguments to explore the countryside in peaceful solitude. When she rescues a lost lamb, she stumbles across the ramshackle home of friendly recluse, Thatcher Jones.

Despite warnings from her father and aunt to stay away from him, Clare strikes up a touching friendship with the elderly man and is enthralled by his beloved companion, an old horse named Captain.

This moving tale of loneliness, loss and friendship is beautifully illustrated. The short chapters and clear, well-spaced text make it particularly suited to dyslexic readers.
