Cyril and Pat

Publisher: Macmillan

Cyril is Lake Park’s only squirrel and he’s lonely. When he meets Pat the big, grey other squirrel, his life is transformed as the pair become firm friends. Although the pigeons and ducks try to tell Cyril that Pat isn’t quite what he seems, Cyril is having too much fun to listen.

When Pat’s true identity, as a big grey rat, is revealed, Cyril is devastated and feels bullied into abandoning his friend by the disapproval of the other animals. It’s not long before Cyril discovers that life without Pat is dull and quite scary and both friends learn not to care about what anyone else thinks.

A colourful, rhyming story about friendship against the odds which is enhanced by illustrations that are witty, detailed, expressive and atmospheric. Funny and endearing, Cyril’s experience celebrates independent thought and the joy of difference.
