A Darkling Plain

Publisher: Scholastic

Far into the future, cities are earth-churning, mobile predators which eat smaller towns and villages and fight the Anti-tractionists, who long for the demise of the cities and for the world to be green again.

Theo and Wren are among the key characters caught up in this conflict. They follow love, loyalties and adventure in the hope of finding peace and saving all humanity from self-destruction.

This fourth and concluding novel in Reeve’s highly original saga is imaginative, complex and well-crafted. Plot and sub-plots are gripping, characters rounded and the attention to detail impressive. There are both humour and instances of gruesome violence. It is essential, however, to read the previous episodes to fully appreciate this finale.
