About this book
Hana has always wanted a pet, but her little brother is allergic to fur. When a magical, talking cat invites her to join the Moonlight Mystery Agency, she realises that a detective cat friend is even better than a pet! Soon, she and Ace are flying to the land of Moonlight, to solve the mystery of Spark the bionic unicorn’s missing birthday cake.
This sweet story has been specially designed with dyslexic readers in mind, meaning lots of space around the text, and slightly creamy pages. The colour illustrations by Agnes Saccani are very cute, making even a grumpy unicorn made of metal look rather adorable. On the inner covers, as with many Little Gems books from Barrington Stoke, there are visual puzzles to enjoy – a spot the difference and a maze.
There is another level to the story, too, as Hana’s adventures make her consider how she treats her brother. Meanwhile, it’s noteworthy that Dad is the only parent mentioned or seen.
This is a delightful wish-fulfilment magical story, perfect for readers who are embarking on reading by themselves. But it would also be lovely to read together as adult and child.
