About this book
When the school’s much-loved gardening club is threatened with closure its members decide to hold a street food festival to try and raise enough money to buy the garden themselves. It becomes obvious that the members’ passion for protecting the garden stems not only from their joy of gardening but also from the self-confidence and friendships that has been nurtured in them. The children draw on their diverse food backgrounds to cook produce from the garden ready for the street food festival. During this preparation process, they not only learn to cook new recipes but also to understand and celebrate their varied cultural heritage. The way the author weaves recipes into the story will no doubt engage readers and perhaps even pique their interest into experimenting with one of the dishes in the book. The eye-catching map at the beginning of the book is indicative of the joyous illustration throughout. This book is a real celebration of the positive effect food can have in society, especially on the lives of children.
This book is also available in English, as The Street Food Festival
