Chair of Trustees

BookTrust is the UK's largest children's reading charity. We know that children who read are happier, healthier, more empathetic, and more creative. They also do better at school. Working with every local authority and across every region in the country we reach over 3million families a year via partners in schools, children's centres, health visitors and libraries. This incredible network helps us to deliver our imaginative programmes which improve educational outcomes, raise aspirations and ultimately effect lasting social change.

We are now seeking a new Chair of Trustees to succeed Karen Brown and help lead us into the next crucial phase in our development. This is an exciting time to be part of BookTrust. The Arts Council of England has just renewed our core funding for the next four years, we are continuing to diversify our income through fundraising and trading, and we are increasing our research and evaluation to measure the impact of our activities.

Working closely with our dynamic Chief Executive, Diana Gerald, the new Chair will build on the existing platform to help take an already successful organisation to the next level.

The successful candidate will be an inspiring leader with a clear passion for our mission and the strategic capacity to understand and guide the development of a small organisation with a large, national reach. Well-networked and with strong relationship-building skills, our new Chair will understand partnership-working and will have gravitas to operate as a compelling ambassador for BookTrust in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. A track record of successful senior organisational leadership experience as a Chair or a Trustee is essential as is a genuine resonance with our aims and values.

This is an unremunerated role.
