Baby Bundle Book
Inside the Welsh Government Baby Bundle Box is a bilingual cloth book for you to enjoy with your baby. It has black and white images as these are easy for newborn babies to see and focus on. It also has different materials so your baby can explore different things to touch.

Why sharing stories with your baby matters
Even before they’re born, your baby will hear and know your voice. Talking, singing and reading with your bump or baby helps to grow their brain, and feel safe and connected to you.
Some tips for sharing stories
There is no right or wrong way to read a book together and it doesn’t matter if you think you’re not a brilliant reader – just listening to your voice is comforting for your baby. Here are some tips for sharing stories that you might find useful:
- Sharing stories can be done anytime, anywhere. On the bus, at the park, in bed – books are great for quick entertainment.
- It doesn’t matter if your baby just touches, or even chews books to start with. Soon they’ll enjoy helping you turn the pages!
- You can just describe what you see, for example ‘Look, a sheep’ – your baby will love hearing your voice, even if they are just listening.
- Use animal noises or sound effects – these help to bring the story to life and make you both laugh!
- You don’t have to read a book from cover to cover – you can just dip in and out.
- Just have fun! Remember there is no right or wrong way to share a story – find a way that works for you and your baby.

Other books
It’s okay to read the same book again and again because familiar books are comforting and build confidence. But if you’re ready for a change, here is a list of books we have put together as suggestions to read to your baby or you can use our Bookfinder to search for books about things your child enjoys.
Other places for support and ideas
Local libraries are free to join and are a great way to continue sharing books together. Many run story or rhyme sessions where you can meet other families.
Flying Start or Family Information Services teams often have groups and support available for families to come together, sometimes for story times, so ask your Health Visitor or Midwife for more information if you need it.
The Welsh Government’s Talk With Me campaign has more handy tips on looking at books together and getting your little one talking.
Remember to look out for your Bookstart Baby pack, that your Health Visitor will share with you, which will have another great book and a finger puppet for you to share with your Baby.
