Time to Read 2022/23

The book for Time to Read 2022/23 is the brilliant We're Going to Find the Monster by Malorie Blackman and Dapo Adeola!

Time to Read 2022

As children start school, life at home can become hectic and it can be hard to balance homework with reading for fun. We know that reading together has a positive impact on children’s imagination, language, and emotional wellbeing. Reading together regularly as a family will also create a fun, safe space for children to express themselves.

Our Time to Read campaign aims to encourage children to spend a little time each day reading. Our free Time to Read packs include tips for sharing stories as a family along with some activity ideas. This year, the packs also include a copy of We’re Going to Find the Monster by Malorie Blackman and Dapo Adeola.

Packs began arriving in schools from November 2022. We hope that every new school starter will love following the adventures with the characters in this story at school and at home.

You can also bring the We're Going to Find the Monster story to life with great videos from the book's authors Malorie Blackman and Dapo Adeola.

Top tips for reading with your child

If you’re not feeling confident about reading aloud or sharing books, don’t worry – there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy a story together. But if you’d like some tips, here are a few pointers to help you get started.

  • Ask your child to choose what they’d like to read. They’ll feel more interested in the story if they’ve picked it out themselves.
  • Ask questions and talk about the book. Picture books can be a great way to talk through your child’s fears and worries, or to help them deal with their emotions. Give them space to talk, and ask how they feel about the situations in the story.
  • Have fun! There’s no right or wrong way to share a story – as long as you and your child are having fun. Don’t be afraid to act out situations or use funny voices… your little ones will love it!
