My Pet Star

We’re very excited that this year’s bookgifting title for Pyjamarama is the brilliant My Pet Star by Corrinne Averiss and Rosalind Beardshaw.

Corrinne Averiss

My Pet Star is a tale of friendship and learning to let go: a little girl finds a fallen star and playfully nurses it back to health. It’s the perfect selection for sparking discussions, encouraging laughter and celebrating reading together, whether that’s at bedtime or otherwise. My Pet Star was also a winner of the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Awards in 2019.

Obviously, this year, due to the current situation with coronavirus, we’re not able to give out the books through our community settings in June as we’d hoped. Many of the libraries we work with have been planning to do read-alongs of the book – so check your local library’s social media for more details.

Check out the main My Pet Star page for loads of fun activities. There are storytime and drawing videos from Corrinne and Rosalind, crafts to do and cosmic cookies to make. You can also make your own Pet Star, colour in your own scene or enjoy some rhymes together. And remember, if you haven’t got a printer at home, you can use any paper to draw your own adventure for your Pet Star.

Later in the year when settings are open again, we’ll be working with them to try and get copies of My Pet Star out to families.

We’d like to thank Corrinne Averiss and Rosalind Beardshaw for this lovely title, and the team at Hachette and Orchard Books for making this possible.
