Word Museum

Publisher: Little Tiger

Welcome to the Word Museum! Oriel the bird will take you on a tour of the different rooms. There are lots of treasures to admire, and words to learn. Plus there’s a grasshopper to spot in every scene! First is the Ancient Pottery Arcade, with cups, bowls and jugs, then the Animal Gallery, with paintings and fossils. Then Oriel leads us through the Furniture Hall, Gadget Hall and Fashion Courtyard, with a break at the Rooftop Café. Each scene has many everyday things in it, such as chairs, TVs and umbrellas, so the whole book is friendly and accessible, although set in a museum.

To add to the fun, there is a large flap to lift in every scene, to find out who or what is behind the door or plant. The text asks simple questions of the child and toddlers will love answering, turning the pages and lifting the flaps. And finding the grasshopper, of course. Sophie Ledesma’s bright illustrations offer cute animals and interesting details to pore over. With items to count, decisions to make (which fruit would you choose?) and words to repeat, this is a hugely engaging board book for little ones.
