The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Publisher: Puffin
When a tiny caterpillar hatches from an egg, the first thing on his mind is food - so off he crawls looking for something to eat.
Over the course of a week, the tiny caterpillar munches his way through all sorts of delicious goodies. Starting with an apple on Monday and working his way through pears, plums, strawberries and oranges by Friday, he leaves a small, caterpillar-shaped hole in each fruit to show where he’s been.
But by Saturday, the caterpillar is still hungry; so he gorges on everything from chocolate cake to salami until finally he is not only full but has a tummy ache! And then the most amazing thing happens, as the caterpillar is transformed into a beautiful butterfly.
This classic picture book with bright, collage-style illustrations has been enjoyed by generations of children for over 50 years and has lost none of its appeal. Little fingers will love to follow the tiny caterpillar through the holes he leaves and to anticipate what he’s going to eat next as the page size increases with his appetite.
And with opportunities to learn colours, numbers and days of the week, this is certainly one of the best picture books ever.

This book was a present to my son from his older cousin when he was just 6 months. It's an absolute favourite read. He loves the interactive pop-ups in the book, especially now 18 months on he is able to turn the wheels and move the caterpillar himself. It has helped teach him the names of a variety of foods from a young age and we enjoy making the different sounds as the caterpillar, munches, crunches and slurps his way through the different foods. A true classic book one never tires of.

This was my favourite as a child and I bought it for my son Edward when I was pregnant because I was always hungry. He is a hungry boy and I'm sure he will enjoy this book as I did when I was a child. It has bright colours and holes in the pages as if the caterpillar has eaten through the pages. I used to laugh at this as a child I loved this book. It teaches children about the life cycle of a butterfly. Starting off as a caterpillar and then becoming a beautiful butterfly. Nice book happy...

'In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf...' A true modern classic, certainly one of the best children's books of all time. My son has memorised the whole book at only three years of age- he adores it. His favourite activity is to point at the pictures of the food the caterpillar eats and name them. Not bad when you consider he has not mastered the skill of reading! A hugely enjoyable book for bedtime.
