The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This is such a great book! It’s simple enough for my 2 1/2 year old to know what’s on each page and be able to read along.

I Love it and I still do now and I'm 9.

I’m Ten now but I wanted to write a review because when I was little (and I’m sure others) I loved this book!

My son loves this book! He loves the butterfly at the end especially. Get the board book version of you have a baby or destructive toddler! :) x

Fun read.

So much fun!

I first got this book out of the library when Ziggy was just a few weeks old. He loved the bright pictures in it. We now have our own copy and he still loves it. He is now a year old and is starting to name the fruits in the book and matches them up with what we have in the fruit bowl at home.

Lovely book

I have to say that its neither my daughter or my favourite book. However at 22mths it has helped her counting and she likes the butterfly at the end.

This book was a present to my son from his older cousin when he was just 6 months. It's an absolute favourite read. He loves the interactive pop-ups in the book, especially now 18 months on he is able to turn the wheels and move the caterpillar himself. It has helped teach him the names of a variety of foods from a young age and we enjoy making the different sounds as the caterpillar, munches, crunches and slurps his way through the different foods. A true classic book one never tires of.

My 2-year-old daughter loves this book, so colourful and she joins in with what he has eaten. Amazing at helping learn the days of the week and counting.

I bought this before my son was born as it's such a classic. We read it in the mornings before breakfast!

Love this book. We have a hardboard book with lovely holes by the caterpillar munching. My toddler likes to try and squueze his fingers through the hole. We we read the book, he likes to flick through all the pages of food the hungry caterpillar ate. Lovely fun story, great illustrations.

This is one of the first books my little boy knows off by heart even though he can't properly read. We brought him the DVD with other books by Eric Carle.

An absolute classic - good for identifying objects and counting and even colours. We've definitely enjoyed this one and my LO loves the transformation at the end.

This is one of the first books I bought for my son which has remained a firm favourite. At first he loved the brightly coloured illustrations and poking his fingers in the holes, now he enjoys the counting and the identification of the different foods.

Great classic and brings back wonderful memories from childhood. Emma loves this book. She signs the caterpillar sign and makes lots of enjoyable sounds whilst the caterpillar is eating the food. It's almost as if she is eating the food! Great book for learning to count and demonstrating the life cycle of a caterpillar.

A lovely book

My daughter loves this book as much as I did as a child. With different sized pages and holes in them for her to feel, even at just 8 months old we could enjoy it together. It's also good for teaching her different foods and an introduction to numbers and days of the week.

My little one just loves the illustrations after reading it at a library and then I bought it and now she brings it as her favourite everyday. I love it too.

When I was young I used to love this book! All the types of foods that the Caterpillar eats and then turns into a beautiful butterfly.It's a great way to teach kids, who are young, to talk to them about the life-cycle of caterpillars.

Both my kids loves this book. They love the progression of caterpillar to butterfly. They found it very interesting and said it's pretty. It's a beautiful, educational book and my kids never get bored with this book.

Love this book, a classic! The vivid colours & beautiful illustrations still work to this day with kids & adults alike, my little man & I read this at least once a day & it's always a winner to keep him amused for five minutes & great for on the go. He loves identifying all the fruit the caterpillar works his way through & is enjoying learning about the other foods too. If you don't love this book, you can't be human!

Bought this book for my DD when she's 6 month old. She likes to put her little finger in each hole and later when she's 9 month old, she loves the story and helps to turn the pages for you. It's colourful, lovely illustrations and a simple storyline that a baby will follow very easily. A must have!

I bought this book in an Edinburgh toy museum when I was 10 weeks pregnant, as it had been one of my favourites as a child! Little one loves turning the pages and poking her fingers through the holes the caterpillar has "chewed" in the book! Afterwards, we watched an animated version of the book on Netflix, which was nice!

One of my favourite books

I absolutely love this book so as soon as my daughter started to stay awake for longer periods of time and focus more I couldn't wait to read it to her! She loved the butterfly page with all the bright colours!

This was the perfect book to read to my 1 month child, I wanted him to start hearing my voice more and to start the ritual of reading before bed time. From this book he will slowly pick up the days of the weeks, numbers and the life cycle of a caterpillar as he starts to become more aware.

My son is quite young for this book, so I sang it to him. I think he will enjoy it more as he gets older. (He is 7 months now, I bought the book when he was 5 months).

I have the version of this where you can poke your finger through to make the caterpillar. My little girl finds this hilarious, especially the eating noises which she sometimes copies. She is only 11 months old but I can see her enjoying this for years to come.

Everyone likes this book

Great book, probably got it because its a book from our childhood, but our son seems to enjoy it too. We even used this book as the theme for our sons first birthday... all the food had little holes through it!

A classic from my childhood, and one that I thoroughly recommend. Our son loves the colours and pictures (only 4 months old).

This was one of the first books bought as a present for my son when he was only a few weeks old, four years on he knows the story well and still likes to have it read and show it to his baby sister. The bright colours are fab for babies and the simple story is easily learned so that young children can help to read along.

Our daughter has the pop-up version of this, which I brought her a few months ago. Even though she's only 7 months old, she already looks to be engaging with the raised images and colours. A great book!

Shared this book in our first time story session in library, The story frame is quite interesting to toddlers eventhough adults. Esp caterpillar eating ice creams making everyones attraction to grab this book of course the pictures are catchy and eye attractive. My son enjoyed this book very well. HandsUp!

We read through the book looking at the little caterpillar as he ate all the food and the amounts get bigger so I use my voice to add excitement to the story and then at the end emphasize how he has turned into a beautiful butterfly, making my 6 month old giggle and laugh!

My little sister and I both had this book as children. My little sister is disabled and has severe behavioural problems and she loved this book and it made her giggle so perfect for ALL children! I bought it for my daughter who is now 1 and she loves it!

My 3 year old doughter absolutely loves this book.She turns the pages and tells me the story herself as bedtime story.So I only give her kiss, say night night and thats it. lol

This was the first book I read to my son when he was just days old. I propped it up beside his change mat and he would look at the pictures while I changed him. I can remember reading this with my mum when I was little. Apparently I always had to put my finger through all the little holes! Definitely a classic.

Fantastic illustrations engage the eye even when very young, and now he's a bit older he's starting to try and tap the page as appropriate to the number of fruit (key word there is trying, but we have lots of giggles). Only problem is he now has to have any VHC toy/item he sees!

My son shares this with his friends and cousins, and his version is the sound version, and interacts so well with the sound button using his pointing finger! Sometimes we read it 17 times in one sitting just so that he can do his 'bit'! and he is only 10months!

'In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf...' A true modern classic, certainly one of the best children's books of all time. My son has memorised the whole book at only three years of age- he adores it. His favourite activity is to point at the pictures of the food the caterpillar eats and name them. Not bad when you consider he has not mastered the skill of reading! A hugely enjoyable book for bedtime.

She likes to poke her fingers in the holes in the foods and to repeat the names of the food items on the pages. She also likes the ending and says wow-ie! everytime we reach the butterfly at the end. Would definately recommend this book xxx

My two year old loves this book. There are lots of things to look for on the pages such as the little egg, sun etc. A great way of asking questions and getting my toddler involved - "where's the catapillar?" "Where's the Sun?" etc. A truly lovely book with a colourful surprise at the end.

I bought this book for my son before he was even born. As my favourite when I was little, not only do I get the enjoyment of watching my son's little fingers poking through the holes, but I am filled with memories of when it was read to me as a child. The illustrations in this book are also so unique, I'm delighted that my son loves to hear me read this over and over!

We bought this book for our daughter when she was still in the womb. The book came with a cuddly caterpillar, which we kept in the incubator with her. The toy caterpillar was almost the same length as she was!
Our daughter is now 13 months old, and loves everything to do with the Very Hungry Catterpillar – she has the cutlery, the puppet book, clothes, and her first birthday cake was the catterpillar! This is a book which can be enjoyed at every age.

This was the very first book I bought for my baby when he was 5 months old....he really liked the colours in the book. Now he is 2 years old and he can say all the words and put his finger in the holes too...very funny....it's still one of his favourite books!!!

This was Zackary's first ever book and we read it to him from the day he was born. He's 15 months old no and this is undoubtedly his most favourite book. It has been read that many times the ink is coming off the pages in places! This would be our number recommendation as a book for any child. It's fun, colourful, and interactive. It helps teach numeracy and days of the week. Amazing book :)
