The Girl With the Parrot on her Head

Publisher: Walker Books

Review

Isabel is happy playing with her friend Simon. When he moves away she becomes very sad and packs everything away in boxes. She finds a big box which she thinks is perfect, she is surprised to find that someone is in the box. The person in the box is a boy called Chester and he and Isabel have lots of fun together.

Daisy Hirst has created a fun and funky picture book. The words and pictures are as quirky as they are engaging. Young friendships are described in a sensitive way. Imagination plays a big part in this story, the reader is given a beautiful insight into the way the mind of a young child works.
