Split by a Kiss is the story of Jo, a British girl who goes to live in the USA for a year, and finds herself plunged into an exhilarating but confusing new life. At heart, she remains the same slightly shy girl, but as 'Josie', the cool new British girl who all the high school in-crowd wants to befriend, she is excited to find herself in a new world of dating and relationships.
But following an encounter with the hottest boy in school, Jo's mixed feelings about what has happened are expressed through two different narratives, taking her down two very different paths. But which route will make her happy?
By the end of the story, the two stories coalesce into a single narrative which shows Jo adapting to her new life, and suggests that British and American teenagers are perhaps not really so very different after all.
