5 thrilling historical adventures 23/01/25
Nora and the Map of Mayhem
Publisher: Piccadilly Press
Nora looks like a normal old lady. But she isn’t, as her great-grandchildren find out when they stay with her for the weekend.
Not only is a fierce villain sending her threatening notes, but she has a secret room of weapons and an infinity bag to store them in. Nora used to be a Monster Hunter!
And now her arch-nemesis, Ripclaw, is after something that Nora stole from her years ago. 10-year-old Atticus and three-year-old Autumn are catapulted into a rip-roaring adventure involving pirates, monster poo, a very large sea creature and a wonky goose.
The irrepressible Nora tells the story in her uniquely dismissive, hilarious way, and readers will be giggling at her attitude. This very funny story would be excellent to read aloud, as there are lots of asides to the reader.
Nici Gregory’s brilliant illustrations are scattered throughout, making this a very appealing book to read. Overall, a hoot.
Mae Nora yn edrych yn debyg i hen fenyw arferol. Ond nid felly, fel mae ei gor-wyrion yn darganfod pan mae dihiryn ffyrnig yn anfon nodiadau bygythiol ati. Roedd Nora yn arfer bod yn heliwr bwystfilod! Cyn bo hir, mae Nora, Atticus ac Autumn yn cael eu taflu i mewn i chwip o antur sy’n cynnwys môr-ladron, creadur mawr y môr a gŵydd simsan.
Mae Nora sionc yn adrodd y stori yn ei ffordd unigryw o ddoniol. Byddai hyn yn wych i’w ddarllen yn uchel, gan fod llawer o sylwadau wedi’u cyfeirio at y darllenydd o’r ochr.

Favourite funny books (older children)
Some of the funniest books around are children's books, so you're in for a treat with these favourites below. Be careful, though - there's a danger of actual tears and serious stomach-hurt from doubling-over with laughter. Don't say we didn't warn you!
