Lunar New Year Around the World

Publisher: Studio Press

Lunar New Year was first celebrated in China over 3,000 years ago and it’s now celebrated across the world. This charmingly illustrated picture book introduces the many traditions that are common to the festival, and also shows some different ones. For instance, in Korea they eat rice cake soup, and in Thailand and Indonesia, they go to the local temples. Meanwhile, in Hong Kong they visit the Wishing Trees where they tie a wish onto an orange and throw it into a tree! There are many different local names for Lunar New Year too. But ultimately, wherever you are in the world, this festival is about welcoming in the new year with family and friends, and wishing them health and happiness.

This would be useful in a classroom to talk about celebrations and festivals.
