The story told by the old men encompasses the sinking of the Bismarck during World War II, tales of dramatic rescue, friendships formed under the most unlikely of circumstances and the cruelty of fate.
This fictionalised account draws on true experiences and stories and was inspired by a carved, wooden dachshund toy, made by a German prisoner of war and now on display in the Imperial War Museum. Masterful storytelling enhanced by apt and atmospheric illustrations.
