Why comics matter for young readers 02/12/24
Jessica's Ghost
Publisher: David Fickling Books
Francis doesn't have many friends. But one day Jessica sits down next to him. Jessica is a ghost, and Francis is the first person who has actually seen her since she died. Neither have anyone else to talk to, so immediately become best friends. Not long after they meet Andi, and she can see Jessica too. Then they meet Ronald, who can also see Jessica. They soon try to work out why the three of them can only see Jessica, as well as determining how Jessica died and why she is still here.
Instead of a typical ghost story, this is a beautiful tale of friendship, as Jessica brings together three teens who wouldn't have ever spoken to each other. The book deals with serious issues while retaining a light tone. Endorsed by Amnesty UK, this is the perfect book to open up discussion around mental health in the young.

This is an amazing book. Sad I found it in the library and have to take it back. It’s very relatable in a way, and a lot of people go through thoughts that are named in the book. Again 11/10 totally would recommend

This book has enlightened me. It’s true in some ways, referring to people’s feeling about them selves. The characters are ever so special, in different ways. I’ve grown to love them! This is one of my favorite books.

You should read Jessica's Ghost if you're against bullying as throughout this book Jessica believes that somebody is meant to be helping her, yet she is helping people who are bullied leading to wanting to commit suicide.

This book is one of the best books I ever read. It helps kids understand the meaning of friendship and help with life itself. You must read this to understand what I am talking about...
