Why comics matter for young readers 02/12/24
Huxley and Flapjack Race to the Rescue
Publisher: Little Tiger
Huxley the koala and Flapjack the penguin live in a tree house near Wibbleton. They are best friends and do everything together. Huxley is energetic and delightfully keen to seize the day, while Flapjack is rather jumpy and a bit cautious. When a new department store, Jollygoods, has an opening day, the friends hop on their bike and zip over there. The store is a lot of fun, with revolving doors to get dizzy in, hats to try on and escalators to run up and down. But when Huxley is mistaken for a robber, they need to think hard and come up with a plan to catch a thief!
This charming young chapter book is full of energy, and the fabulous colour illustrations on every page perfectly reflect the vim and vigour of the adventure. Huxley is perhaps a little too quick to act before thinking, and this can provide a talking point. Meanwhile, the very sweet and sensible Flapjack is always there to counter-balance the impetuous koala. This would appeal to young readers who enjoy animal stories that aren’t too cutesy.
Mae Huxley y coala a Flapjack y pengwin yn ffrindiau gorau. Mae Huxley yn egnïol ac yn awyddus, ond mae Flapjack ychydig yn fwy gofalus. Pan fo Huxley yn cael ei gamgymryd am leidr mewn siop adrannol, mae angen iddyn nhw feddwl yn galed a llunio cynllun i ddal y lleidr go iawn.
Mae’r llyfr penodau swynol hwn i blant ifanc yn llawn egni ac yn cynnwys darluniadau lliw gwych ar bob tudalen. Mae byrbwylltra Huxley yn arwain at lawer o sefyllfaoedd doniol, a byddai’r llyfr hwn yn apelio i ddarllenwyr ifanc sy’n mwynhau straeon anifeiliaid nad ydyn nhw’n rhy giwt.
