Timo is gathering wild plums in the bush when he hears an animal whimpering. It’s a dog, with a terrible snakebite on his swollen leg.  Timo carries Lion, the brave dog, back home where the village vet amputates the injured leg. Although Timo and his mum are poor, living on money from selling jam, she agrees to keep Lion. He learns to hop on three legs and soon accompanies Timo to the wild plum tree to collect fruit for jam-making. But Timo falls from the tree and can’t walk. Will Lion fetch help before a leopard finds Timo?

A heart-warming African adventure, about a kind boy and a special dog, decorated with beautiful African borders and hot, sunny illustrations.
