Evolution: Join us on an exhilarating journey from the origins of life to the present day!

Publisher: Natural History Museum & What on Earth Books

Evolution can be defined as the way that living things change over time to suit their environment. In this rather stunning and highly informative read, real-life scientists Sarah Darwin and Eva-Maria Sadowski introduce readers to some of the amazing animals, plants and fungi that have lived on our planet, from dinosaurs to early humans, mushrooms and bacteria to monkeys and fish and beyond!

Darwin (Charles Darwin’s great-great granddaughter!) and Sadwoski also profile a number of scientists who have made pioneering discoveries, from Alfred Wegener, who came up with the theory of continental drift, to Berhane Asfaw, whose discovery of a 160,000-year-old skull suggested that humans originated in Ethiopia.

This hardback, fully illustrated non-fiction book features fairly advanced text that is suitable for children at the top end of primary school. There is a sophisticated glossary of terms and a very adult list of Selected Sources that the authors have drawn on in their research at the back of the book. Olga Baumert’s beautiful, colour rich illustrations make looking at every page a delight.
