Disaster Dad: Chicken Chaos

Publisher: Eriu

Mum is the glue holding everyone together, so 10-year-old Finn and his little sister Emma are apprehensive when she goes to America for a week to visit family, leaving Dad in charge.

Before she leaves, Mum stocks the fridge with enough home-cooked meals to feed an army and draws up a master plan, with detailed timetables and lists of important things to remember.

However, when the master plan is destroyed by a mishap with the milk, Dad takes control and chaos ensues.

Firstly, he paints the kitchen table, but Carl the dog treads in the paint and covers the house with pink paw prints. Then, Dad attempts to build a chicken coop as a surprise for Mum’s birthday, despite Finn’s concerns that Mum has never shown any interest in keeping chickens. Even baking a chocolate cake, which looks so easy when Mum does it, proves to be a challenge.

Events quickly spiral out of control, and as Dad lurches from one disaster to the next, time is running out to fix things before Mum gets home.

The first in a series, this hilarious chapter book features comical black-and-white illustrations throughout and is full of mayhem and fun.
