Crisps

Emily and her family are trapped on an isolated island, where they are forced to produce luxury potato crisps for no pay and starvation rations by an evil old hag, Lady Grubnot.

When Emily discovers that Lady Grubnot's ambitions include not only industrial espionage but possibly mass murder, she has to find a way off the island. Easier said than done when a single wrong move could result in the destruction of her whole family...

Although some of the plotting and storytelling is a little rough around the edges, Emily's adventures are entertaining enough to keep young readers engaged. A wildly imaginative story using some complex vocabulary to challenge young readers.
